Regular AC Maintenance
It’s important to perform regular AC maintenance checks on your air conditioning system. First repair and replacement costs can be very expensive. So you want your system to last as long as possible. Regular checks can catch a problem before it causes other problems. Also, a maintained system will no doubt last longer than one that was neglected. Second, you want to try and avoid those annoying mid-summer breakdowns. Not only does no one want to be in a hot house, but that’s also when A/C companies are busiest. Therefore the odds are higher you will be hot longer.
What Type of Maintenance Should be Performed?
There are a few AC maintenance items you want to take care of. One is that the condenser coil is clean and clear of any overgrown shrubbery or what have you. It is also best to keep the outdoor unit off until the yardwork is done. Two the drain line should be cleaned and the main drain pan treated if possible. This is very important as most of our systems here in the Houston area are in the attic. Also, you want to make sure the evaporator coil is clean. A dirty evaporator coil can cause big problems. Last but not least you want to check the filters every 30 days. Every six months for those who run media filters. This is the easiest and the one thing that doesn’t necessarily require a professional AC maintenance provider to do.
How Often Should AC Maintenance be Performed?
You should call your AC maintenance service provider every six months to check and service the system if need be. Once for the A/C and once for the heater. The heat check could be extremely important as gas furnaces must be working properly to be safe and provide peace of mind on those cold winter nights. You wouldn’t run your car without having the proper service at the proper intervals so don’t do it to your air conditioning system.
